Established in 1936, Châteauneuf-du-Pape was the first French Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC), created to safeguard quality and preserve the reputation of its wines. Only grapes grown within the defined boundaries of the Southern Rhône Valley may bear the name. Producers must follow stringent regulations — one of which is the requirement that all grapes are harvested by hand — to maintain the integrity and tradition of the appellation.
The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Red Wine Cask Edition celebrates The Dalmore’s partnership with one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s most distinguished estates — Château Mont-Redon — the largest single vineyard in the appellation and a benchmark for both red and white wines. The estate’s origins date back to 1344, when the property, then known as Mourredon, formed part of the papal lands near Avignon. The name Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or “New Castle of the Pope”, reflects this lineage. In 1923, the winegrower Henri Plantin acquired the property, then little more than a scattering of vines across a few hectares. Over time, he consolidated and transformed it into the 100-hectare plateau vineyard that defines Mont-Redon today. Plantin’s pioneering vision of clearing land and planting vines amid the region’s characteristic rolled pebbles laid the foundation for generations to come.
To mark this partnership, three hand-selected barriques from the 2023 vintage were chosen to mature and finish The Dalmore whiskies for up to two years:
Bottle No. 1: 24-Year-Old Dalmore Single Malt, finished in a 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape cask
Bottle No. 2: 34-Year-Old Dalmore Single Malt, finished in a 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape cask
Bottle No. 3: 43-Year-Old Dalmore Single Malt, finished in a 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape cask
Designed by Burgess Studio, each bottle features a solid silver stopper and collar, inlaid with foiled Saffiano leather. The trio is presented in round “hat box” cases, crafted by Italian luggage makers in ‘French Blue’ Saffiano leather, complete with a matching handle and luggage tag containing details of the whisky. The case functions both as a carry case and a display plinth. An accompanying book chronicles the shared history of Château Mont-Redon and The Dalmore, while miniature tasting kits — comprising three 5cl bottles — allow collectors to explore the series in depth.
